Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
